Zoya Smoke Collection Fall 2011 Swatches & Review

Posted in Brown, Gray, Green, Zoya on August 19, 2011 by ainamakeup

I just love this time of year when all the fall collections come out.  Spring collections are intriguing to me but nothing makes me more excited than the fall nail color and makeup collections.  The darker, moody nail colors appeal to me more and fall is when they really come out to play!

Zoya Codie

Deep Dark Greenish swampy brown creme. Reminds me of OPI’s Get in the Espresso Lane.  But it’s still not an almost black.  We’ll take it!

Zoya Dree

Pretty pea green.  Like the split pea soup in the can my momma used to make when I was a kid.  I hated that stuff, but I love this shade!

Zoya Jana

As much as I love Gray, it’s not unique anymore.  I still can’t resist a good fall gray, and this one is as good as any of the others out there.

Zoya Anja

Deep, dark and vampy, what fall collection would be complete without a color like this.  Again, dark but not an almost black.

Zoya Cynthia

Teal is again a big color for this fall.  Not as big as last year, but it’s here.  This one is more green in tone and really nice.  I’m definitely not over this trend!

Zoya Petra

Petra is a darker gray, more purple/brown based if that makes sense.  Things always look darker in the crappy lighting of my apartment and the fact that one of my living room lamps bit the dust this weekend isn’t making things better.

The formula on these were nice, just like what Zoya usually delivers with each collection.  You can pick up these beauties at Zoya.com.

CND Swatches

Posted in Blue, Brown, Gray, sheer with tags on January 31, 2011 by ainamakeup

A few months ago I attended a trade show in Florida for work and snagged some CND goodies for $5 each!  Previously this I only had one or 2 of the CND Colour and Effect polishes, but now that I have a few more I have to say I really love them!  The color impact  so intense I could have gotten away with one coat, but in most of these photos I used two and in one case, 3.

CND Inkwell

Lovely dark blue.  It’s an almost black shade of blue.  Not necessarily unique but a great blue nonetheless.

CND Ashphalt

I can’t ever resist a gray and this one is definitely in my favorites list.  It was pretty much completely opaque in one coat.  Happy Happy Joy Joy!

CND Putty

I got this one hoping it would be a great nude for me.  This was the only one I used three coats with just to try and build it up a bit.  It’s still pretty sheer and I don’t think it goes with my skintone very well.

CND Raisin in the Sun

Ok, again maybe not such a unique color but this is a really nice dark chocolaty brown.  I like that it’s red toned but still a true brown.

I know everyone is talking about Shellac, and while I’m really looking forward to trying it soon, I have to say I really love these Color & Effects polishes.  You can get them at goindulge.com for $9.00 each.  Enjoy!

Chanel Khaki Swatches and Review

Posted in Brown, Chanel, Green on October 26, 2010 by ainamakeup

Now that I’ve been bitten by the Chanel bug, I found myself unable to resist the Khaki collection.  At first I’d limited myself to Khaki Vert and Khaki Brun, but after a few days, I decided to get the third in the collection, Khaki Rose.  I have no regrets!

Chanel Khaki Vert

Could I be more in love?  It’s green. It’s moody.  It’s camo.  I love it!  I’m so glad colors like these are in fashion.  These are the kind of colors I always dreamed of but didn’t have enough imagination to create myself.

Chanel Khaki Brun

Love love love!  muddy swampy brown creme.  This was the shade that broke my resistance.  I went to Bloomingdale’s on my lunch break and picked this one up thThis is definitely my go-to brown for the fall!

Chanel Khaki Rose

I wasn’t sure about this color until I saw it in person at Bloomingdales.  I was afraid it would look dowdy and mom-ish.  I was wrong.  I really like it and am happy to have added it to my stash!

Not sure where(or if) you can get these as they came out during Fashion Week.  Just checked the Chanel website and Khaki Brun is still available!  Get it while it’s hot!

Color Club Untamed Luxury Fall 2010 Swatches & Review

Posted in Brown, Color Club, Gray, Purple, Shimmer with tags on October 20, 2010 by ainamakeup

I have to be honest.  I hadn’t owned any Color Club nail polishes until this collection.  I saw the swatches on Scrangie, and I decided to give them a try.  I bought mine from Head2Toebeauty.com and for only $2.75 each, you can get them all!  I wish I’d tried Color Club sooner because this is a great brand!  The quality is excellent, the formula is great and the price is oh so right!

Color Club Soft As Cashmere

Have I mentioned how much I love gray.  Can’t have enough.  This is a great gray creme if you wanted to try a gray but didn’t want to spend a ton of money.

Color Club Ready To Royal

Dark and Vampy.  What’s not to love.  This is a great eggplant creme that looks almost black.  It’s not unique, but I still like it!

Color Club Positively Posh

This gray has more brown in it than soft as cashmere.  It looks similar to Merino Cool by Essie, but I haven’t compared the two side by side yet.

Color Club Jewel of a Girl

Beautiful!  Kind of reminds me of Dr. Pepper or a dark cream soda.  I really like it.

Color Club Nothing but Truffle

Dark chocolate shimmer.  I like the dark brown base and the subtle bronze toned shimmer.  This one reminds me of Root beer.  I’m sure we’ve seen similar shades before but of course that’s not going to stop me from buying!

The formula on these were fantastic!  Color Club definitely proves you don’t have to spend much for great polishes with great quality!

Essie Fall 2010 Swatches and Review

Posted in Brown, Gray, Green, Purple, Red, Taupe with tags on October 19, 2010 by ainamakeup

I’ve been really loving what Essie has been coming up lately.  I could not wait for this collection for Fall 2010.  Some of the colors are nothing new, but classic shades that I love.

Essie Sew Psyched

What can  I say!  When I first saw this color advertised I knew it would be a favorite and it does not disappoint! This is definitely in my top 5 for Fall.  Grayed out sage green.  This was the color I wanted to paint the walls in my bedroom.  Somehow This is not the color that’s on my walls

Essie Merino Cool

Taupe Gray that has a hint of purple.  Another fave.  It took me forever to find this at my favorite beauty store because it was sold out every time went to look for it.  There are tons of grays on the market now, but I can’t resist each one.

Essie Limited Addiction

This was a fantastic addition to the collection.  It’s bright but still very fall.  I’m not a typical red wearer, but I’ve definitely worn this more than once since I’ve bought it.

Essie Velvet Voyeur

Another color that is nothing new, but still one I’d gravitate towards.  I didn’t buy it initially but decided I wanted it and I got it!

Essie Little Brown Dress

Again, there are plenty of dark almost black browns out there, but like a true addict, I just had to have this one as well.  Browns are among my favorite colors.

You can get these on Essie.com of course, but I like to go to one of my favorite beauty booty spots, Beauty 35 in NYC.

Nail Porn: My First Chanel Polishes!!!

Posted in Brown, Chanel, Purple, Taupe on October 6, 2010 by ainamakeup

I never thought I’d own any of these.  I didn’t think I had the gumption to pay over $20 bucks for a single nail polish, but the heart wants what the heart wants.   I resisted the “Black Satin” craze. I’d even managed to not cave in when “Jade” took us all by storm.  I know I’m late to the party but after seeing swatch after swatch of these throughout the nail bloggesphiere, my will was broken.  I gave in, purchased my first Chanel nail polishes and I have no regrets!

Chanel Paradoxal

What a gorgeous unique color.  I love the subtle shimmer flash of pink in the grayed-out purple base.  What can I say about Paradoxal that hasn’t already been said.  I will cherish this polish always!

Chanel Pariculiere

Grayed out Taupey brown shades are on my irresistible list.  I just knew I had to have this and I’m so glad I made the investment.  There may be similar colors but I’m so glad I have this one!

Zoya Wonderful Collection Swatches and Review

Posted in Brown, Gray, Green, Purple, Red, Zoya with tags , , , , , , on July 25, 2010 by ainamakeup

I am so excited to have the opportunity to review this collection.  While I like shimmers, cremes are my true passion (vice, addiction..whatever) and the polishes of the Wonderful collection from Zoya for Fall 2010 truly are wonderful.  All of the following photos are two coats of polish with no top coat and the formula was fantastic.  Very easy application, even for a girl like me who never could color inside the lines.

Zoya Kristi

Kristi is a sexy red creme.  It reminds me of “Staggette” by Cheeky Monkey, but Kristi is more of a true red, and slightly less bright.  I’m not the biggest red fan, but I’d definitely wear this.

Zoya Shawn

I am in love with this green.  It’s brighter than an olive, more yellow based.  But it’s different from other greens like RBL No More War.  I was way late on the green bandwagon, but I’m making up for lost time and this green will be among the top of my fall polish rotation.

Zoya Cola

Cola is a reddish-brown creme.  Usually, when I think of reddish-brown I recall… The 80’s and early 90’s (yikes!).  When I was younger I used to dream of the dark, vampy, cool toned brown polishes that are now more available.  No one had really come out with deep browns back in the day.  At best you’d get colors similar to this one.  This shade looks much more modern than the “momish” reddish browns of the past – like Revlon “Toast of NY”.  I like it!

Zoya Burke

This is a nice, muted rose toned red.  If I had to go somewhere where I had to look “appropriate” I’d probably rock this.  I’m not ga ga over this shade.

Zoya Stacy

Nice classic vampy wine.  Really like this one!  It’s got a slightly muted feel to it. Stacy is definitely going in the rotation this fall!

Zoya Kelly

My Precious!  Dark, moody, totally fall appropriate.  I’m in love.  This is definitely my favorite of the collection.  I think gray is such a sophisticated shade to wear – and Kelly is no exception.  At first I thought this was similar to OCC’s “Dangerous” , but Kelly is a bit warmer, and I think a bit darker.  Really love this!

You can snag this collection on Zoya.com.  Happy Shopping!
