China Glaze Holiday 2010 Swatches and Review

Posted in Bronze, China Glaze, Green, Red on February 9, 2011 by ainamakeup

Ok, fine!  I’m just a wee bit late on posting these.  I figure since it’s there is no end to winter in sight,  despite what Puxatony Phil and Staten Island Chuck (seriously, Staten Island has a groundhog named Chuck!) predict, I can get away with reviewing a holiday collection now right?  I picked up a few of the shades that piqued my interest on 8ty8 Beauty.

China Glaze Little Drummer Boy

This dark blue shimmer really caught my eye.  It’s not as “almost black” as other blues out there like Nars Midnight Express or Zoya Ibiza.

Ching Glaze Sugar Plums

Really like this.  This was definitely one of my go-to holiday shades.  Red Plum with gold glitter.  Even though the glitter particles are small, they are still a little difficult to remove, like most glitter polishes are.  I think this is the most traditional and festive of the holiday collection.

China Glaze Naughty and Nice

I can’t ever get enough of vampy dark polishes. This one is a dark plum creme and even though its not anything new, it’s lovely.

China Glaze Peace on Earth

Surprisingly, this was my favorite Holiday shade  I chose this antique gold/olive green  shimmer to wear during the holidays and to all the Holiday parties I attended.  It was different than you usual red and green holiday shades, but was still festive for the season.  Love it!

China Glaze Vntage Vixen Swatches and Review

Posted in Blue, Bronze, China Glaze, Gray, Green, Purple, Red, Shimmer on August 23, 2010 by ainamakeup

I’m probably the last blogger to post swatches of these, but I’ve been crazy busy lately.  Without further delay here are my swatches of the China GlazeThis fall 2010, Vintage Vixen.  The other thing that makes this post special is this is my first attempt at natural daylight swatches!  I do hope you like them.

Overall, I really liked this collection.  The formula on these for the most part was was very nice.  Not too thick or thin.  There was one exception (see below)  Each swatch is 2 coats with no top coat.

China Glaze Classic Camel

I am in love with this color. On first sight in the bottle, I thought it looked a little drab.  I wasn’t sure I was going to like it before I tried it, but once I had it on, I loved it.   It reminds me of dijon mustard in this photo.   Unfortunately I had the most application trouble with this shade.  I’m not sure if I shook it before applying or if I got a faulty bottle or something.  I have no idea why it looks chunky on my nail.

China Glaze Foxy

This is a decent brown toned red.  It’s definitely a fall type of color.  the shimmer in it is nice.  I like it, but it’s probably ot going to be the first color I reach for fall.

China Glaze Ingrid

It’s LOVE!  You all know how I feel about grays and taupes.  this one has something special.  Tiny ribbons of gold shimmer throughout.  This photo doesn’t do it justice.

China Glaze Goin' My Way

Lovely coppery, bronze shimmer.  Definitely works Well for the fall.  Really pretty and earthy.

China Glaze Swing Baby

Sparkly silver foil.  This applied like a dream and is definitely more interesting to look at in person.

China Glaze Riveter Rouge

My favorite thing about this pretty cranberry red is the flecks of gold throughout this polish.  This shade is one of my favorites in this collection.

China Glaze Jitterbug

A darker gray silver shimmer with a foil finish.  Another favorite of mine.  I love gray!

China Glaze Hey Doll

Copper rose shimmer.  I surprised how much I like this color.  I wouldn’t normally gravitate towards this type of shade, but I think this looks nice on my skin tone and is also a work appropriate shade.

China Glaze Bogie

Dark polishes have always been my thing and Bogie is no exception.  This deep egplant shimmer is still light enough that it doesn’t look almost black.  just dark, shimmery and pretty!

China Glaze Emerald Fitzgerald

Lovely Green shimmer.  More yellow based than blue I think.  This is another favorite from this collection.

China Glaze Midnight Mission

Very appropriately names as this shimmer in this reminds me as the night sky!  What a gorgeous deep blue.  Another winner for me!  Absolutely love this!

China Glaze Poolside Collection Swatches & Review

Posted in Blue, China Glaze, Green, Orange, pink, Yellow with tags on May 9, 2010 by ainamakeup

Happy Mother’s day to all the wonderful mom’s out there!

Today I bring you the China Glaze Poolside Collection for Summer 2010.  These are a collection of Neon polishes that you will definitely need shades to enjoy in the hot summer sun!  While I consider myself a nail polish aficionado, I up until this collection didn’t own any neons and didn’t realize that neons dry with matte finish. When I started applying the first polish, I thought I was going crazy or that my base coat had turned the polish matte.  All of the swatches you see do not include a top coat so you will see these shades in their true matte form.  I found the formula on these to be a little on the streaky side, but I think with the addition of topcoat they would look just fine.

China Glaze Yellow Polka Dot Bikini

This is a neon yellow.  When I think neon, I think the 80’s so I’m not sure if I would normally pick this color up unless I needed it for a Halloween costume.  If neons are your cup of tea, this yell will definitely fit the bill.  As you can see this one is a little streaky, but I think with topcoat, the streaks would smooth out.  Apparently, yellows tend t be problematic.

China Glaze Pool Party

This is a pretty neon pink creme I think is fun.  This is a shade I would definitely wear, although admittedly it’s not the first polish I would pick up.  I like that it’s a flashy, hot pink.  This one reminds me of the 80’s as well, but in a good way.  Pool Party applied much less streaky than some of the others.

China Glaze Towel Boy Toy

I think this one is one of my favorites.  It’s bright and blue.  I really like the name as well.  Makes me imagine Cougars on some Hedonism resort laying on lounge chairs staring at the booties of young men as they walk by.

China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy

I’m not sure what’s up with this photo.  I may have to retake this when I can access some sunlight because as I look at it, now it is definitely more of a bright orange.  here is looks more pink or coral and it is not.

Kiwi Cool-Ada

Neon Green.  I’ve definitely developed an affinity for green nail polish but I’m not sure I can hang with this one.  I always say, Anything Goes on my Toes so I’ll be adding this to the Lacquerholic files under under Toes.  This one was the least streaky out of the bunch in terms of application.

China Glaze Sun Worshiper

This is a lighter Orange than Flip Flop Fantasy.  I think this one is more wearable than some of the other shades for me.  Again this was a bit on the streaky side, but with a coat of Seche, I’m sure it will look fine.

These polishes went on very sheer on the first coat.  Almost see through.  I used three coats on all of these.  If you’re an adventurous color wearer, then this collection is for you!

My Latest Haul & the Conclusion of the CND saga

Posted in China Glaze, CND, glitter, Matte, Orly, Purple, Red on January 22, 2010 by ainamakeup

My last post was about how I mistakenly received a CND color and effect set in my mailbox.  Once I realized the name on the package was incorrect, I (reluctantly) placed the box back directly on top of the mailbox that had the first name of the person I thought it belonged to.  When I arrived home the next day and the box is now at my front door.  What’s a girl to do?   I’m keeping it!  I figure it’s the same as the “found money policy”.  You return it.  If someone doesn’t claim it within 24 hours, its yours to keep.  Add to that the fact that someone went out of their way to put the box in front of my apartment door.  I think I can safely say it’s mine to keep!

CND Rhubarb

Rhubarb is a tomato red creme that I unexpectedly like!  I’m not really a red girl- it feels too obvious for a nail polish color, but I think I’ll be wearing this shade every now and again.  Especially on my toes. That’s the one place I love to wear red polish.  I have to say the formula on this was really great.  It was perfect in two coats.

CND Rhubarb with Copper Shimmer

This is a nice effect, but I think I prefer Rhubarb on it’s own!

I also decided to treat myself to a few goodies from 8ty8  Beauty.  I just love that site!  I received my shipment unbelievably  fast! I got one of the colors from China Glazes Up and Away collection, and a bunch of cool Orly’s too!

Orly Iron Butterfly

I was going to skip this one.  I thought I didn’t need it, but I’m glad I changed my mind.  I find it hard to let matte colors be and not add a top coat, but I think this is really nice!  Of course I did indulge myself and added a coat of clear.  It looks even better with a top coat!

Orly Iron Butterfly w/ clearcoat

I was afraid this was going to look similar to the color Goth by Orly, but it is different.  The glitter is denser, and not really glitter.  More than that, removing the polish was much easier than removing the OPI suede polishes.  Taking off the OPIs is just as hard as removing glitter polish.

China Glaze Grape Pop

I wasn’t 100% sure I was going to like this, but I LOVE it!  This picture just doesn’t do it justice.  It’s way brighter in real life. Not grayed out at all.  It’s a fun color for spring but I’d wear it now in anticipation of lovely spring weather that coming soon, right, Mother Nature?

Orly Wild Wisteria

I have so many dark and vampy nail polishes and I don’t care!  I love them all.  This one is a deep violet purple creme.  Somehow it still reads “spring” to me.  Maybe it’s because of the name.

Orly Wandering Vine

I was surprised Orly went with another green creme for spring when they released such a great (and similar) green creme for last fall, “Enchanted Forrest”.  Then again, did that stop me from purchasing this one?  Not so much…..

I really happy with my haul!  Off to pick a NOTD for tomorrow.  Until next time addicts!!

China Glaze Wizardof Ooh Ahz

Posted in Blue, China Glaze, glitter, Purple on December 29, 2009 by ainamakeup

In my continuous effort to catch up on all the polishes I’ve been missing the last 2 years or so, I was thrilled to know that China Glaze had re-released their Wizard of Ooh Ahz collection.  One of the most acclaimed colors is “Dorothy Who” which is a beautiful blue glittery bottle of beauty!

China Glaze Dorothy Who

The shade of blue is just too pretty for words and the glitter is dense and a total show stopper.  I like it on my fingers but I think I like it even better on my toes!

China Glaze C-C-Courage

What an awesome color.  I have to admit I’m falling more and more in love with glitters every day.  I love that the glitter pieces are smaller than most glitters and purple is quickly becoming one of my favorite colors to wear.  I’m so happy!  Two of my nail polish cravings have been satisfied!
