CND Haul and Lacquerholic Tries the “Stickey” Sandwich

While I was at IBS Las Vegas, I was thrilled to finally have the opportunity to check out CND.  For some reason the nail polish gods haven’t blessed us New Yorker’s with any stores that I know of that sell CND Colour and Effects. I can easily find CND products like Solar oil and perhaps a few base and top coats, but I had  yet to see the collection of CND Colour and Effects with my own eyes.  In the interest of saving money and looking at the whole collection, I decided to limit my spending here – Sad but true.  I figured it was more important for me to get a few effects and less of the colors, so I chose just one CND Colour and two effects.  After much deliberation I chose Green Scene!

CND Green Scene

I really like this bright cheery green creme.  I don’t think I own any greens quite like this in my collection.  The polish applied like a dream.  It wasn’t streaky and was opaque in two coats. I already want more!

After choosing Green Scene, I decided to get some Effects.  I figured for my money it was wiser to pick two Effects.  I can use them with any polish and… well, they’re just so darn pretty!  I went through all the effects and in the end, I went with Violet Shimmer and Jade Sparkle.

With Violet Shimmer (middle) and Jade Sparkle (index)

This photo doesn’t do these effects justice at all.  I’m going to have to get a better picture of these with a darker polish.  I think I’m loving the violet shimmer a tiny bit more than the Jade Sparkle, but again. I need a different polish to see how just how intense the Effects really are.

While I was there, I got to talking with a nail technician at the booth.  She told me about a technique a fellow nail aficionado told her about called “The Stickey Sandwich”.  The technique is supposed to result in a longer lasting manicure.  It starts with a coat of CND Stickey base coat, then a layer of the nail polish of your choosing, another coat of Stickey, a second coat of polish, hen a third coat of stickey, a final layer of polish then the top coat of your choice.   Here’s my manicure using  the Stickey sandwich technique and Nubar Wildlife on day three.

The Stickey Sandwich Day Three

As you can see there is some obvious tip wear here, but I didn’t think it was so bad.  Usually my manicures begin to peel a little on the second day.  Then if I find myself getting fidgety during the day I’ll find a weak point in the seal of my nail polish and start to peel my polish off.  While this may not be a bulletproof manicure, it certainly has more staying power than my usual technique – and I didn’t have the urge to peel!

Stay tuned to part two of my CND review where I share my brief but worthwhile encounter with CND’s new Hybrid nail color Shellac!

My Latest Haul & the Conclusion of the CND saga

Posted in China Glaze, CND, glitter, Matte, Orly, Purple, Red on January 22, 2010 by ainamakeup

My last post was about how I mistakenly received a CND color and effect set in my mailbox.  Once I realized the name on the package was incorrect, I (reluctantly) placed the box back directly on top of the mailbox that had the first name of the person I thought it belonged to.  When I arrived home the next day and the box is now at my front door.  What’s a girl to do?   I’m keeping it!  I figure it’s the same as the “found money policy”.  You return it.  If someone doesn’t claim it within 24 hours, its yours to keep.  Add to that the fact that someone went out of their way to put the box in front of my apartment door.  I think I can safely say it’s mine to keep!

CND Rhubarb

Rhubarb is a tomato red creme that I unexpectedly like!  I’m not really a red girl- it feels too obvious for a nail polish color, but I think I’ll be wearing this shade every now and again.  Especially on my toes. That’s the one place I love to wear red polish.  I have to say the formula on this was really great.  It was perfect in two coats.

CND Rhubarb with Copper Shimmer

This is a nice effect, but I think I prefer Rhubarb on it’s own!

I also decided to treat myself to a few goodies from 8ty8  Beauty.  I just love that site!  I received my shipment unbelievably  fast! I got one of the colors from China Glazes Up and Away collection, and a bunch of cool Orly’s too!

Orly Iron Butterfly

I was going to skip this one.  I thought I didn’t need it, but I’m glad I changed my mind.  I find it hard to let matte colors be and not add a top coat, but I think this is really nice!  Of course I did indulge myself and added a coat of clear.  It looks even better with a top coat!

Orly Iron Butterfly w/ clearcoat

I was afraid this was going to look similar to the color Goth by Orly, but it is different.  The glitter is denser, and not really glitter.  More than that, removing the polish was much easier than removing the OPI suede polishes.  Taking off the OPIs is just as hard as removing glitter polish.

China Glaze Grape Pop

I wasn’t 100% sure I was going to like this, but I LOVE it!  This picture just doesn’t do it justice.  It’s way brighter in real life. Not grayed out at all.  It’s a fun color for spring but I’d wear it now in anticipation of lovely spring weather that coming soon, right, Mother Nature?

Orly Wild Wisteria

I have so many dark and vampy nail polishes and I don’t care!  I love them all.  This one is a deep violet purple creme.  Somehow it still reads “spring” to me.  Maybe it’s because of the name.

Orly Wandering Vine

I was surprised Orly went with another green creme for spring when they released such a great (and similar) green creme for last fall, “Enchanted Forrest”.  Then again, did that stop me from purchasing this one?  Not so much…..

I really happy with my haul!  Off to pick a NOTD for tomorrow.  Until next time addicts!!

I was lamenting the other day that I don’t own any CND Colour Effects polishes.  It’s on my list of things to buy, but I’m on a budget so I must be practical.  I can’t get everything I want.  Especially after my haul at Rescue Beauty Lounge… oh and a few of the polishes from the BB Couture Vampy Varnish collection, but I digress..

I come home tonight, looked inside my mailbox and much to my surprise and delight I see a box from CND!  Could it be?  Have I so quickly graduated from unknown polish blogger to polish blogger who gets product samples from polish companies? Then I turned the box over to see who it was addressed to.  It wasn’t me.  The address was my exact address, but the name on the box wasn’t mine.  After surveying the mail boxes I noticed someone with the same first name, but a different last name.  I assume the package is for her.  I guess I have to give the box to its rightful owner.

What a letdown.  One day I will get my CND!
