Zoya Spring 2011 Swatches and Review

Spring still hasn’t completely sprung here in NYC.  But that hasn’t stopped me from bringing the spring to my nails with the Zoya Intimate collection for Spring 2011.

Zoya Gemma

Super pretty green this pic does not do this color justice.  There is a super subtle flash of violet here.  I don’t think I have anyy other green like this in my stash.

Zoya Marley

I’m glad this collection has taken a more sophisticated turn from the super bright pastels of last spring.  Marly is the most pastel-ish of the lot.  It looks a little pink, a little white and a little violet at the same time.  I’m not mad at it!

Zoya Caitlin

Yay another gray!  This one has a tinge of cornflower blue in it and even though it’s a pretty dark gray, it still feels spring-like to me.

Zoya Dove

This one is one of my faves.  A much lighter gray than Caitlin and I think it’s a good contract against my skin.

Zoya Dannii

I think this is the most unique of the collection.  A purple shimmer wish silver micro glitter.  Not my usual style but definitely a fun color to wear, particularly for spring.

Zoya Jules

A light gold shimmer.  I don’t wear alot of gold but I think I would wear this.

All in all i think this is a nice collection of wearable shades that could work on anyone.  You can get each for $8.00 on Zoya.com.

Mattese Elite Nail Polish Swatches and Review

Posted in Blue, Gold, Green, Mattese Elite on January 4, 2011 by ainamakeup

Happy New Year, Everyone!!!  I know I’ve been gone for a while but I am back!  December was a crazy busy month for me work wise.  I worked 19 days in a row.  No days off.  I’m so glad the work marathon is over and I can get back to blogging regularly!  Behold the Fall 2010 collection from Mattese Elite.

Mattese Elite is a brand sold at legendary NYC Cosmetics and costume emporium, Ricky’s.  You’ll notice some of the shades in their fall 2010 collection are named similarly  and bare a resemblance to polishes of some of the more well-known brands, but at around $5.00 a pop, you won’t mind the shades being knockoffs, and the quality is definitely there!

ME Lost in Passion

This one really surprised me.  I just didn’t expect such a bright blue when I first looked at the bottle color.  I thought t would be more of a blurple.  There is a lot of purple micro shimmer that shows in the bottle, but after three coats it’s a bright blue.  I really like it.

ME Green with Envy

Forest green creme.  Love it!  It may not be that unique, but if you’re looking for a color like this, I’d highly recommend this one.  This one is a regular in my winter rotation.

ME Amazing Rush

This is a glittery olive-green/antique gold.  I was afraid I wouldn’t love it, but I do.  It’s not too gold and not too green, and I think it works well with my skin color.

Ski Teal Dusk

Ok, so the name of this one was definitely  ahem…inspired by OPI’s “Ski teal we drop”.  So what!  It’s a more affordable teal that applies like a dream and looks great!

The formula on all of these were great!  Two coats on all the swatches and that was really all that I needed.  You can order these online at Matteseelite.com for only $5.99!

My Essie Haul at IBS

Hi there Addicts!!!

I’m back after what seems like a marathon of non stop work.  I finally had some time to do some swatching so I can finally post some polishes I picked up at the International Beauty Show earlier this month.  If you’re in the beauty industry, this is the show for you.  All of the biggest brands of hair, makeup and nails are represented.  I was there on official business doing my job representing a cosmetics company, but I got a spare minute or two to hit up Essie and OPI as they had some great deals!  Essie offered 6 polishes for $20!  Here’s what I picked up!

Essie "Aruba Blue"

Very pretty ocean blue shimmer.  This is one of three blues I got at Essie.  This one caught my eye because I don’t have any blue like it.

Essie "Golden Nuggets"

I picked up this one because I didn’t have a gold glitter I could use on its own or to franken with.

Essie "Sexy Divide"

I bought a lot of purples during my polish buying free-for-all as well.  This one has a bright purple flash embedded in its shimmer that really makes it special.  I love it!

Essie "Midnight Cami"

Another blue.  This ones a dark vampy blue shimmer.  I passed over this color last winter but since I was in buying mode, I decided to pick it up.

Essie "After Sex"

Ok, so I mostly picked up this color because of the name.  I actually think this color is good for before sex.  It reminds me of a glossy candy apple.  It’s definitely a flirty shade – a pink based red with subtle shimmer.

Essie "Mesmerize"

I had already picked out my 6 polishes when I saw this dusty yet bright blue and decided it had to be mine as well.  What a pretty creme.  I’m looking  forward to the beautiful blue skies of spring and wearing this pretty blue polish!

Essie "It's Genius"

Well, I don’t know about genius, but this pinky purple with subtle gold shimmer sure is pretty!  I’m glad I added this one to my collection.

Stay tuned for swatches from my OPI haul coming soon!

My OPI Hong Kong Collection Haul

Posted in Blue, Gold, Green, OPI, pink on February 24, 2010 by ainamakeup

After seeing all the reviews, I decided I just couldn’t live without a few choice polishes from OPI’s Hong Kong Collection for Spring 2010.

Meet Me on the Star Ferry

This is a medium pink shimmer that I didn’t expect to love, but I do.  I know for certain I don’t have anything like it. I think it compliments my skin tone well.

OPI Suzi Says Feng Shui

I wore this one day and received three compliments in about 5 minutes. I loved this blue before that, but the rapid succession of compliments solidified it.

OPI Jade is the New Black

I just love this. I’ve begun a love affair with greens and this one is definitely one of my faves! This dusty, yet bright green makes me so happy!

OPI Bling Dynasty

When I initially checked out this collection in person, I passed on this medium gold shade, but I changed my mind a few days later and decided I needed a pretty gold. I really like that the application on this is not streaky like many shimmers can be.

The formula on all of these polishes were fantastic! Smooth application and they were all opaque in two coats. I used three for these swatches however because that’s just the kinda girl I am!
