Two New OPI’s

Posted in Green, Matte, Purple, Shimmer, Uncategorized on December 13, 2010 by ainamakeup

I picked up two new OPI’s recently.  Take a gander at these babies!

OPI Teasy Does It

Out of all the sparkly colors in the new Burlesque collection I decided I only wanted one.  It wasn’t a matter of restraint, I just wasn’t feeling the majority of the colors. I’m not a big fan of Glitters and I love dark polishes more than the majority of the colors featured in the Burlesque collection.

OPI Here Today, Aragon Tomorrow Suede

I really love the Matte finish on this suede shade.  Green, matte, shimmery.  What more can I ask for?  I find it odd that they suede versions OPI releases are not remotely like their classic counterparts.  However unlike they are, the still have a special place in my heart.  And you get two polishes in one by using a shiny top coat!

OPI HTAT with Top Coat

It’s really pretty with top coat, but I think I like the dull, matte finish better.  People just don’t wear them enough!

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted, but I’ve been crazed at work.  We had a huge promotion over thanksgiving weekend and we are just now getting the last of the overwhelming amount of orders out.  I’m back and definitely plan on posting and updating at least twice a week if not more!

Throwback Thursday: Old School Mattes

Posted in Bronze, Brown, Gray, Matte, pearl, Purple, Throwback Thursday on February 25, 2010 by ainamakeup

Anyone who has had a longstanding love affair with nail lacquer knows that the matte and satin finish trend is not a new concept. I decided to go digging through my Lacquerholic archives and find my old mattes. I have to admit I haven’t worn some of these in years; reason being I don’t have much time in my day to day life to wait for nail polish to dry. Mattes dry somewhat faster than regular nail polish, but you can’t use a fast drying top coats. My usual nail routine when I want to change polish colors is to add a coat of Seche Vite or Poshe fast drying top coat, wait 20 minutes then go to sleep. I love the fact that I can wake up the next morning with no sheet marks on my polish!

What I love the most about these mattes is that most of them are drugstore brands like Maybelline.

Sally Hansen "Bronzed Matte"

To this day I’ve yet to see any color quite like this and I love it. This is the color of bronze statues. I absolutely love it and will keep it for as long as I can. Notice the very subtle flash of brassy shimmer?  Someone needs to re-create like this so i don’t have to worry about running out!

Maybelline "Matte Galaxy"

I love this pearly, off white matte. Most of the new mattes that are out are dark, so this is a refreshing change of pace.  The application was a little chunky, as this polish is pretty old.  I’m not sure how to fix these because they are matte and not glossy.  Will adding thinner ruin the finish?  I didn’t want to find out…

Maybelline Matte Bronze

This is a very different bronze than the Sally Hansen. This Bronze has a brassy tone to it. It’s not as unique as the Sally Hansen, but I still like it!

Maybelline Matte Grape

Love this! The name says it all. It’s dark, it’s purple, it’s matte, it’s not too chalky.

Maybelline Matte Stone

YES! I love this light gray/brown. Yes the polish is old and it a bit think so it applied streaky but how cool is this matte? This color has to be over 10 years old and I think it was ahead of its time.

If you’re lucky, you can find some of the old Maybelline Express finish nail polishes at your local dollar stores. I’ve seen them at “Lots for Less” on Chambers Street and at “Cosmetic Show” on east 55th Street in New York City. Happy Searching!

My Latest Haul & the Conclusion of the CND saga

Posted in China Glaze, CND, glitter, Matte, Orly, Purple, Red on January 22, 2010 by ainamakeup

My last post was about how I mistakenly received a CND color and effect set in my mailbox.  Once I realized the name on the package was incorrect, I (reluctantly) placed the box back directly on top of the mailbox that had the first name of the person I thought it belonged to.  When I arrived home the next day and the box is now at my front door.  What’s a girl to do?   I’m keeping it!  I figure it’s the same as the “found money policy”.  You return it.  If someone doesn’t claim it within 24 hours, its yours to keep.  Add to that the fact that someone went out of their way to put the box in front of my apartment door.  I think I can safely say it’s mine to keep!

CND Rhubarb

Rhubarb is a tomato red creme that I unexpectedly like!  I’m not really a red girl- it feels too obvious for a nail polish color, but I think I’ll be wearing this shade every now and again.  Especially on my toes. That’s the one place I love to wear red polish.  I have to say the formula on this was really great.  It was perfect in two coats.

CND Rhubarb with Copper Shimmer

This is a nice effect, but I think I prefer Rhubarb on it’s own!

I also decided to treat myself to a few goodies from 8ty8  Beauty.  I just love that site!  I received my shipment unbelievably  fast! I got one of the colors from China Glazes Up and Away collection, and a bunch of cool Orly’s too!

Orly Iron Butterfly

I was going to skip this one.  I thought I didn’t need it, but I’m glad I changed my mind.  I find it hard to let matte colors be and not add a top coat, but I think this is really nice!  Of course I did indulge myself and added a coat of clear.  It looks even better with a top coat!

Orly Iron Butterfly w/ clearcoat

I was afraid this was going to look similar to the color Goth by Orly, but it is different.  The glitter is denser, and not really glitter.  More than that, removing the polish was much easier than removing the OPI suede polishes.  Taking off the OPIs is just as hard as removing glitter polish.

China Glaze Grape Pop

I wasn’t 100% sure I was going to like this, but I LOVE it!  This picture just doesn’t do it justice.  It’s way brighter in real life. Not grayed out at all.  It’s a fun color for spring but I’d wear it now in anticipation of lovely spring weather that coming soon, right, Mother Nature?

Orly Wild Wisteria

I have so many dark and vampy nail polishes and I don’t care!  I love them all.  This one is a deep violet purple creme.  Somehow it still reads “spring” to me.  Maybe it’s because of the name.

Orly Wandering Vine

I was surprised Orly went with another green creme for spring when they released such a great (and similar) green creme for last fall, “Enchanted Forrest”.  Then again, did that stop me from purchasing this one?  Not so much…..

I really happy with my haul!  Off to pick a NOTD for tomorrow.  Until next time addicts!!

Zoya Green Friday Swatches!!!

Posted in Green, Matte, Shimmer, Zoya on December 16, 2009 by ainamakeup

Zoya has quickly become one of my favorite polishes.  While most polishes on the market are free of the harmful chemicals we used to subject to ourselves to back in the day (like Formaldehyde) Zoya takes pride in being Non-Toxic – even safe for Pregnant women! I took advantage of their “Green Friday” event after Thanksgiving and here are my new lovely greens!

Zoya Suvi

Suvi is a medium green shimmer.  This is three coats and it applied really well.  This is definitely among my favorite greens!  I love that it’s dark but doesn’t look black.

Zoya Tangy

You can only sort of see the melony-pink shimmer that comes out in the light green shimmer.  The shimmer is holo-ish and the application on this one is quite thin and smooth.  This is three coats and no top coat.

Zoya Envy

Oh how I love Envy!  This was one of the first Zoyas I bought and hoped it was a dupe of the rare find Nars Zulu, but according to Scrangie (yeah, I asked her!)  Zulu has  more jelly finish and it’s just not the same. .  That’s fine with me.  I can’t miss what I never had and I absolutely LOVE this green!!!

Zoya Midori

This is darker than Tangy and instead of the pink-ish shimmer it’s got a hint of silver shimmer.  The application on this was a little on the thick side.  The color on this one surprised me.  I didn’t think I was gonna like this color on my skin tone but I’m actually looking forward to spring and rockin’ this shade!

Zoya Veruschka

I don’t wear mattes often.  Mainly because you can’t use Seche Vite with a matte and I usually do my nails at night before I go to bed.  With Seche I can do my nails, wait 20 minutes and go to bed without worrying about sheet marks or smudges.  This looks very similar to Suvi IMO and even more so with a coat of clear, though I think its got a little more sparkle with the matte version with the coat of clear.

Veruschka with shiny clear coat.

I think Veruschka has a tad more yellow than Suvi.  Suvi is a teeny bit bluer, but just a hint.  For a matte, this went on really well.  It was thick but that’s typical of most mattes.  It wasn’t very difficult to apply and   It was opaque in 2 coats but I did three.

Overall I am just at the tip of the iceberg on Zoya.  I can’t wait to try more!!!
