OPI Touring America Fall 2011 Swatches & Review

Posted in Blue, Gray, Green, OPI, Purple on October 5, 2011 by ainamakeup

I was so excited to pick these up at My favorite creep nail polish spot, Beauty 35 here in the NYC.  I went on a mini spree and bought almost the entire collection.  I was broke, but happy!

French Quarter for your Thoughts

Very cool light gray creme.  Love this. Usually grays this cool don’t look so great against my skin tone, but I really think this works!

Get In The Expresso Lane

Love this.  A cool toned brown.  So dark, and lovely.  I never get tired of a dark polish!

Road House Blues

I needed a blue like this.  Blurple creme. I simply adore it!

A Taupe The Space Needle

I was afraid this looked exactly like San TanTonio, but it really doesn’t.  Definitely a great addition to this collection.

Suzi Takes The Wheel

Unusual shade. Sort of green, sort of gray, sort of muted.  Definitely one of my favorites in the collection.

Honk if You Love OPI

Beep Beep!  I know it’s not particularly unique, but at this point how can OPI create a fall collection that doesn’t include a vampy purple creme?

Uh Oh Roll Down The Window

Love This Green.  So many oilve/military greens on the scene this fall, and this one is right up there with the best of them.  And what a cute name.  Sadly this reminds me of every road trip from NY to Down south to visit family.  13 hours straight on I-95.  Ah memories…

I Brake For Manicures

Another gorgeous Vampy violet brown.  Oddly cool toned yet dark and murky and gorgeous!  I both love and hate colors like this because while we polish freaks can see the subtle differences in polishes like this, most people can’t.  All they’ll see is a dark polish.  Sad but true.

The formula on these were pretty good.  I did notice that on most shades, the color on the nail was much darker than the bottle color. and what’s with the chalkiness and weird texture when looking at the bottle of for example, “Suzi Take the Wheel”.  It never looks fully combined, but luckily that look doesn’t translate on the nail.

Note: these were bought and paid for by me.

OPI Swiss Collection Swatches and Review

Posted in Blue, Green, OPI, Purple, Red with tags , , , , , , , on September 7, 2010 by ainamakeup

Hi Everyone!  I know I’ve been a little MIA, but I’m back and have a lot to catch up on!  Today, I bring you the OPI Collection  for Fall 2010.  I love how every major OPI collection focuses on an exciting locale.  This time the collection is Swiss-themed and while I had a hard time restraining myself, I think the shades I chose to take home are awesome!

OPI "William Tell Me About OPI"

OK, so this vampy dark purple with a touch of brown may not be the most unusual of creme shades, but I can’t resist a dark polish.  I like that while it’s very dark you can still tell that it’s dark and not black.

OPI "Yodel me on My Cell"

Yodel me on my Cell is so pretty!  I love this shade of blue shimmer.  I could definitely see me wearing this at the ski lodge…well, if I ever skied.

OPI Color So hot it Berns

I LOVE this red.  I was surprised at how much I like it.  I discovered this while getting a polish change at a nail salon near my job.  I usually do my nails and toes at home, but I hadn’t had time and I was going out that night so I opted for a polish change.  It’s cheaper than a pedicure and it’s a good way of trying different colors without committing to buying them or sitting through a full pedi when you don’t have the time.  Anyway, I chose this really bright red that reminds me of the reds women wore in the 40’s.  I thought it look fantastic on my toes – so much so that I decided to buy it.

OPI "Cuckoo for this color"

Cuckoo for this color is aptly named because I definitely am.  This is a beautiful green-blue shimmer.  I think it’s a great color for fall, and one I will be wearing quite often.

OPI "Ski Teal We Drop"

So Far, Ski Teal We Drop has been the color I’ve reached for the most since buying these polishes.  I just love the shade.  I can’t get enough.  It’s dark but not too dark. Moody without being off-putting, and it’s a straight up creme, which keeps the shade simple and sophisticated.  Definitely my favorite of the collection.

All of these are available at a myriad of places that sell nail polish near you.  Enjoy, everyone!

(disclaimer – I bought these polishes with my own money.  These were no provided to me.

OPI Shrek Collection Swatches

Posted in Blue, Green, OPI, Purple with tags , , , on June 1, 2010 by ainamakeup

I was really excited for this collection.  Definitely more excited than I am for the movie.  I’ll wait for Netflix to watch the movie.  Once I realized the collection had been released, I quickly made my way to Ricky’s in NYC  to pick up a few colors.  Here’s what I got!

OPI What's With The Cattitude?

This pretty sky blue is probably a little too cool toned for my skin tone but I do like it. The formula on this was a tiny bit streaky but nothing that would sway me from buying it.  Its got quite a bit of pastel in it, which I usually shy away from but  I think will add this to my summer rotation.

Who the Shrek are you?

Of course OPI couldn’t do this collection without including a bright green.  This is one is quite neon and very yellow based.  I thought I would love for my nails, but I think this one is going in the Toes Only file.

OPI Funky Dunkey

My hands down favorite of the collection.  While it does resemble China Glaze “Grape Pop” which I own, I just couldn’t help but pick up this purple.  A beautiful creme that applied nice and smooth.  This one is definitely in my summer rotation.

OPI Damone Roberts 1968

I skipped out on this one the first time it came out.  I’m so glad it was re-released.  I ordered it as soon as I heard, and it is a notable addition to my budding mint green collection.  So pretty!  Thank you, Damone Roberts for giving us a second chance at this gorgeous green!

IBS Haul Part 2: OPI

Posted in Blue, Brown, OPI, Purple, Shimmer on April 5, 2010 by ainamakeup

Hey there’s folks!

I bring you part two of my haul from IBS, the International Beauty Show, in NYC last month.  On the Last day of the show, I finally managed to make my way over to the OPI booth.  They were offering 6 polishes for $24.  Not a bad deal at all!  I was hoping they’d have some new things to offer, like the Shrek collection, because I’d  already bought what I wanted from the Hong Kong Collection and Alice in Wonderland.  I did however pick up a topcoat and few standouts from past collections, I hadn’t yet added to my stash.

OPI Yoga-ta Get This Blue

This is from the India collection and passed it up previously as I thought “Russian Navy” was all the blue I needed.  But I was oh so wrong!  This blue is gorgeous!  Shimmery, dark but not “almost black”, which is what I love most about it.

OPI Miami Beet

I chose this dark hot pink because.. well I don’t have anything like it.  I figured I would step outside of my box a bit and pick something I wouldn’t normally wear.  Many of the colors I chose were very similar so I wanted to get at least one polish that was  totally different.

OPI Black Cherry Chutney

This is another one from the India Collection.  I can’t resist a dark polish, and even though OPI has made tons of shades like this, (“LPAM” and “Eiffel For This Color” come immediately to mind), I just had to have this!

OPI Lincoln Park At Midnight

And speaking of LPAM.  I bought this one because I think it is becoming HTF and I wanted a backup.  This is one of my all time favorite polishes.  It’s a go to color when I can’t decide what color I want to paint my nails.  It just makes me happy!  Even thought the nail polish neophyte would just see two similar polishes, we polish aficionados know these are not dupes at all.

OPI "Over The Taupe"

I didn’t pick up this lovely taupe when it debuted last summer because I thought it was too similar to “You Don’t Know Jacques” and I just couldn’t justify having both.  I’m glad I decided to buy this at IBS, because it’s such a pretty taupey Brown.  Love love love it!!

My OPI Hong Kong Collection Haul

After seeing all the reviews, I decided I just couldn’t live without a few choice polishes from OPI’s Hong Kong Collection for Spring 2010.

Meet Me on the Star Ferry

This is a medium pink shimmer that I didn’t expect to love, but I do.  I know for certain I don’t have anything like it. I think it compliments my skin tone well.

OPI Suzi Says Feng Shui

I wore this one day and received three compliments in about 5 minutes. I loved this blue before that, but the rapid succession of compliments solidified it.

OPI Jade is the New Black

I just love this. I’ve begun a love affair with greens and this one is definitely one of my faves! This dusty, yet bright green makes me so happy!

OPI Bling Dynasty

When I initially checked out this collection in person, I passed on this medium gold shade, but I changed my mind a few days later and decided I needed a pretty gold. I really like that the application on this is not streaky like many shimmers can be.

The formula on all of these polishes were fantastic! Smooth application and they were all opaque in two coats. I used three for these swatches however because that’s just the kinda girl I am!

NOTD: OPI My Private Jet

I bought this color a few months ago after hearing the incomparable Scrangie raving about it in an old post somewhere on her blog.  I left it in my stash unused until today and OMG.  I’m so in love with this color.  I can’t even describe what this is supposed to be. Sometimes it’s violety, other times it’s brown.  the multi colored micro glitter is a thing of beauty.  I kind of can’t stop looking at it.  I don’t even want to take a picture of it because I know I can’t do it justice.  I haven’t even seen it in daylight yet (it’s 10 PM here and my apartment does not get good light at all) and I can’t wait!

Here’s a pic with flash that shows off the multicolored micro glitter:
