Zoya Spring 2011 Swatches and Review

Spring still hasn’t completely sprung here in NYC.  But that hasn’t stopped me from bringing the spring to my nails with the Zoya Intimate collection for Spring 2011.

Zoya Gemma

Super pretty green this pic does not do this color justice.  There is a super subtle flash of violet here.  I don’t think I have anyy other green like this in my stash.

Zoya Marley

I’m glad this collection has taken a more sophisticated turn from the super bright pastels of last spring.  Marly is the most pastel-ish of the lot.  It looks a little pink, a little white and a little violet at the same time.  I’m not mad at it!

Zoya Caitlin

Yay another gray!  This one has a tinge of cornflower blue in it and even though it’s a pretty dark gray, it still feels spring-like to me.

Zoya Dove

This one is one of my faves.  A much lighter gray than Caitlin and I think it’s a good contract against my skin.

Zoya Dannii

I think this is the most unique of the collection.  A purple shimmer wish silver micro glitter.  Not my usual style but definitely a fun color to wear, particularly for spring.

Zoya Jules

A light gold shimmer.  I don’t wear alot of gold but I think I would wear this.

All in all i think this is a nice collection of wearable shades that could work on anyone.  You can get each for $8.00 on Zoya.com.

OPI Swiss Collection Swatches and Review

Posted in Blue, Green, OPI, Purple, Red with tags , , , , , , , on September 7, 2010 by ainamakeup

Hi Everyone!  I know I’ve been a little MIA, but I’m back and have a lot to catch up on!  Today, I bring you the OPI Collection  for Fall 2010.  I love how every major OPI collection focuses on an exciting locale.  This time the collection is Swiss-themed and while I had a hard time restraining myself, I think the shades I chose to take home are awesome!

OPI "William Tell Me About OPI"

OK, so this vampy dark purple with a touch of brown may not be the most unusual of creme shades, but I can’t resist a dark polish.  I like that while it’s very dark you can still tell that it’s dark and not black.

OPI "Yodel me on My Cell"

Yodel me on my Cell is so pretty!  I love this shade of blue shimmer.  I could definitely see me wearing this at the ski lodge…well, if I ever skied.

OPI Color So hot it Berns

I LOVE this red.  I was surprised at how much I like it.  I discovered this while getting a polish change at a nail salon near my job.  I usually do my nails and toes at home, but I hadn’t had time and I was going out that night so I opted for a polish change.  It’s cheaper than a pedicure and it’s a good way of trying different colors without committing to buying them or sitting through a full pedi when you don’t have the time.  Anyway, I chose this really bright red that reminds me of the reds women wore in the 40’s.  I thought it look fantastic on my toes – so much so that I decided to buy it.

OPI "Cuckoo for this color"

Cuckoo for this color is aptly named because I definitely am.  This is a beautiful green-blue shimmer.  I think it’s a great color for fall, and one I will be wearing quite often.

OPI "Ski Teal We Drop"

So Far, Ski Teal We Drop has been the color I’ve reached for the most since buying these polishes.  I just love the shade.  I can’t get enough.  It’s dark but not too dark. Moody without being off-putting, and it’s a straight up creme, which keeps the shade simple and sophisticated.  Definitely my favorite of the collection.

All of these are available at a myriad of places that sell nail polish near you.  Enjoy, everyone!

(disclaimer – I bought these polishes with my own money.  These were no provided to me.

Zoya Wonderful Collection Swatches and Review

Posted in Brown, Gray, Green, Purple, Red, Zoya with tags , , , , , , on July 25, 2010 by ainamakeup

I am so excited to have the opportunity to review this collection.  While I like shimmers, cremes are my true passion (vice, addiction..whatever) and the polishes of the Wonderful collection from Zoya for Fall 2010 truly are wonderful.  All of the following photos are two coats of polish with no top coat and the formula was fantastic.  Very easy application, even for a girl like me who never could color inside the lines.

Zoya Kristi

Kristi is a sexy red creme.  It reminds me of “Staggette” by Cheeky Monkey, but Kristi is more of a true red, and slightly less bright.  I’m not the biggest red fan, but I’d definitely wear this.

Zoya Shawn

I am in love with this green.  It’s brighter than an olive, more yellow based.  But it’s different from other greens like RBL No More War.  I was way late on the green bandwagon, but I’m making up for lost time and this green will be among the top of my fall polish rotation.

Zoya Cola

Cola is a reddish-brown creme.  Usually, when I think of reddish-brown I recall… The 80’s and early 90’s (yikes!).  When I was younger I used to dream of the dark, vampy, cool toned brown polishes that are now more available.  No one had really come out with deep browns back in the day.  At best you’d get colors similar to this one.  This shade looks much more modern than the “momish” reddish browns of the past – like Revlon “Toast of NY”.  I like it!

Zoya Burke

This is a nice, muted rose toned red.  If I had to go somewhere where I had to look “appropriate” I’d probably rock this.  I’m not ga ga over this shade.

Zoya Stacy

Nice classic vampy wine.  Really like this one!  It’s got a slightly muted feel to it. Stacy is definitely going in the rotation this fall!

Zoya Kelly

My Precious!  Dark, moody, totally fall appropriate.  I’m in love.  This is definitely my favorite of the collection.  I think gray is such a sophisticated shade to wear – and Kelly is no exception.  At first I thought this was similar to OCC’s “Dangerous” , but Kelly is a bit warmer, and I think a bit darker.  Really love this!

You can snag this collection on Zoya.com.  Happy Shopping!

OPI Shrek Collection Swatches

Posted in Blue, Green, OPI, Purple with tags , , , on June 1, 2010 by ainamakeup

I was really excited for this collection.  Definitely more excited than I am for the movie.  I’ll wait for Netflix to watch the movie.  Once I realized the collection had been released, I quickly made my way to Ricky’s in NYC  to pick up a few colors.  Here’s what I got!

OPI What's With The Cattitude?

This pretty sky blue is probably a little too cool toned for my skin tone but I do like it. The formula on this was a tiny bit streaky but nothing that would sway me from buying it.  Its got quite a bit of pastel in it, which I usually shy away from but  I think will add this to my summer rotation.

Who the Shrek are you?

Of course OPI couldn’t do this collection without including a bright green.  This is one is quite neon and very yellow based.  I thought I would love for my nails, but I think this one is going in the Toes Only file.

OPI Funky Dunkey

My hands down favorite of the collection.  While it does resemble China Glaze “Grape Pop” which I own, I just couldn’t help but pick up this purple.  A beautiful creme that applied nice and smooth.  This one is definitely in my summer rotation.
